New Belgium's Urban Assault Ride (9:00AM)
Find St. Louis Earth Day's Recycling On the Go at....

The Urban Assault Ride™ is a truly unique cycling event...and quickly becoming one of the biggest in country! Here's how it works: You and your teammate will set out on a city-wide quest for 'checkpoints' on your favorite two-wheeled steeds.  At each checkpoint, you'll drop your bikes and complete a funky/adventurous obstacle course, then remount your bikes and hit the streets for more.

The goal is to complete all the checkpoints in the shortest amount of time. You choose your own route and checkpoint order. This means that the most clever are often the victors. Of course, it may also help if you can pull a mean big-wheel powerslide and fly across an inflatable slip-n-slide ;)

After your pedal-powered adventure, your team will cross the finish line and enter a massive celebration of bikes and beer. The after party is just as much fun as the ride itself, thanks to the craziest raffle prize contest you'll ever experience.

Pick a partner and we'll see you there!

Restore Rain Barrel Workshop (6:00PM - 8:00PM)

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis’ ReStore will be holding rain barrel demonstration workshops Wednesday evenings at 6 PM on July 28, August 18 and September 9. The one-hour class has been so successful that additional dates had to be added to the schedule. The classes will be held at The ReStore, located at 3763 Forest Park Avenue (between Vandeventer and Spring).

Rain barrels are a way to collect rain water that falls on a roof. The water collected in the barrels can be used instead of fresh tap water for things like watering a garden or lawn or washing a car. Collecting and using rain water reduces the amount of drinkable water used for things other than drinking. This saves water, money, and treatment time. The rain barrel system available at The ReStore redirects the water in a downspout to a barrel or series of barrels instead of allowing it to spill onto a yard or driveway or flow directly into the sewer system. This water is better for plants because rainwater does not include the chemicals, such as chlorine, present in treated drinkable water.

The public is invited to attend the workshops to watch and learn for free, or leave with a rain barrel. Rain barrels are sold for $50. The ReStore offers pre-made barrels and/or parts, tools, and assistance to make your own. Reservations are not required to attend the workshops but will help ensure there will be ample supplies available. E-mail restore@habitatstl.org with your name and the number of rain barrels you are interested in purchasing and/or building.

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis is a not-for-profit, ecumenical housing ministry working in partnership with individuals and communities of all faiths to improve living conditions and provide affordable housing in the St. Louis community.  Habitat for Humanity sponsors, volunteers, and partner families work side-by-side to build new homes.  Each homeowner family invests 450 hours of “sweat equity” into their home and other projects.  Sponsors include corporations, organizations, religious groups, and individuals.  Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis regularly ranks among the top Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the country.  More information on Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis can be found at www. habitatstl.org.
