Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering at the 20th annual St. Louis Earth Day Festival. Our organization relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers to make the festival happen. We are extremely grateful for whatever help you are able to provide. If you have not experienced the Festival before, you are in for a treat! On the day of the event, 25,000 people gather in Forest Park on the Muny grounds to engage in learning and celebration with 250 vendors from across the region As a sign of our gratitude, we will provide free Earth Day T-shirts for all volunteers, as well as food and water. We highly encourage volunteers to bring their own water bottles and sunscreen and to dress for the weather. We can best accommodate groups of volunteers in the areas described below. Thank you for your interest! GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Note: Your group is not required to provide the full number of requested volunteers. Saturday Set-Up/Sunday Set-Up Crew Saturday, April 24, 2010, Noon - 4PM, Sunday April 25, 2010, 7AM - 11AM. Help out as we prepare the MUNY grounds for the 20th Annual St. Louis Earth Day Festival. Activities may include, but are not limited to: moving tables/chairs, setting up straw bales, setting up barricades and traffic signage, and placing recycling bins throughout the festival footprint. (Must be able to lift at least 20 lbs.) 10-20 volunteers Tear-Down Crew Sunday, April 25, 2010, 6PM - 9PM Help return the MUNY grounds to their natural splendor. Activities may include, but are not limited to: emptying trash/recycling bins, collecting tables/chairs, picking up litter and helping vendors/exhibitors load out. (Must be able to lift at least 20 lbs.) 15-25 volunteers Vendor Check-In/Vendor Check-Out Sunday, April 25, 2010, 7AM - 10:30AM, 8AM - 11AM, 6PM - 8PM Help direct vendors to the appropriate area and assist with unloading/loading to ease congestion before and after the event. (Must be able to work with the public, problem solve, and able to read a map. May include lifting.) 20+ volunteers for AM shift, 15 volunteers for PM shift
Survey Squad Sunday, April 25, 2010, 11AM - 1:30PM, 1:30PM - 4PM, 4PM - 6PM Roam the Festival grounds to sign people up for the free raffle while collecting important demographic/evaluation information. 30-40 volunteers per shift Program Circulation/Information Assistance Sunday April 25, 2010, 11AM - 1:30PM, 1:30PM - 4PM, 4PM - 6PM Help attendees navigate the Festival Grounds and become informed about all of the activities taking place! Hand out the event program and encourage people to deposit programs at the reuse stations at the Entry/Exit points when they leave. You may also help people find their way to areas of interest by orienting them with the program map. 10-20 volunteers per shift Recycling Crew (Collection and Sorting) Sunday, April 25, 2010, 11:30AM - 2PM, 1:30PM - 3:30PM, 3PM - 5PM, 4:30PM - 7PM, 6PM - 8PM St. Louis Earth Day is very grateful to Boeing Employees for Environmental Protection (BEEP) for managing Recycling On the Go at the 20th Annual Festival. BEEP has managed recycling efforts at the festival for the past three years and will once again be on hand to help out. As this is the most volunteer intensive part of the festival, you do not have to be a member of BEEP to participate; all are welcome. Volunteers may participate in a live "garbology" demonstration, sorting festival waste onsite to discover the proportions of waste destined for the recycling center, compost heap, and the landfill. (Must be willing to with working with trash. Safety equipment provided. Waste collectors must be able to lift at least 20 lbs.) 15-20 volunteers per shift; 20-30 for last |
