HELP US WALK THE WALK!

Last year, we collected 1800 lbs of recyclable materials and 1075 lbs of compostable food waste! We would appreciate it if you could help us to achieve an even higher amount of diversion this year through the recommended actions below listed below:

PRE-EVENT:

1.    Purchase RECYCLABLE or COMPOSTABLE disposable products only

2.    Contact St. Louis Earth Day for recommended vendors

3.    If you are giving out food samples (requires advance permission and health permit), please make sure that you do so in containers that are compostable (like tooth picks or paper napkins) or recyclable (like #1,2, or 5 plastic cups). NO #6 plastic or styrofoam!!!

Consider the waste...if you opt to do a pre-wrapped sample, the wrapping will likely be "landfill waste" rather than recyclable or compostable and will impact our goal for a zero waste event.

4.   If you are giving away items, think about the waste. Is the item wrapped in plastic? Is the item something people will quickly dispose of? Will the item create a meaningful impression? Is the item inline with Earth Day values?

DURING THE EVENT:

1.    CARDBOARD: Break down and lay flat behind your booth

2.    ALUMINUM PANS: Wipe out all food content

3.    COOKING OIL: Put spent oil back into original containers

4.    TIN CANS

5.    PLASTIC BOTTLES & CONTAINERS

6.    GLASS BOTTLES

  a.    WINE VENDORS: Please place wine bottles back in their original cardboard boxes

7.    WINE CORKS: No plastic corks: Place real corks in a separate bag or box

Items will be picked up throughout the day by St. Louis Earth Day volunteers. Place the recyclable items behind your booth.

POST EVENT:

1. Help our volunteers by collapsing all cardboard boxes and bringing waste to the recycling stations to sort appropriately.

2. Do your part! Help us restore the Muny Grounds back to their natural splendor. Leave your site BETTER than how you found it!

We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to working together to make this event a "green" success.

St. Louis Earth Day's Recycling On the Go is the region's first wide-scale event recycling program. The program's goal is to reduce the negative environmental impact of large outdoor festivals and events by recycling a portion of the trash they generate, thereby reducing the amount of solid waste that ends up in area landfills.
