Festival Information and Highlights
Sunday April 25, 2010 Click the links AT LEFT for more detailed program information! You can check out our program in pdf form here, as seen in the latest edition of The Healthy Planet magazine! ENTERTAINMENT! Erin Bode joins the long list of local entertainers participating in this year’s Festival, including a special performance by the Shakespeare Festival St. Louis. Musical performances begin at 11am and continue all day. Mayor Francis Slay will kick-off the Festival with the All Species Parade. To participate in the parade, dress up like your favorite species and meet at the main stage for the Opening Ceremony at 11:45am. ACTIVITIES! Highlights of the festival include “Think Outside the Box”, an open art area where children and adults create a one-of-a-kind container to remind them to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, and The Earth Day Challenge, which encourages everyone to bring a bag for purchases, a water bottle to re-fill and use alternative transportation to get to Forest Park. Visitors who accomplish two of the three challenges will receive an eco-friendly prize at the Information Booth. NEIGHBORHOODS! A themed-neighborhood layout makes it easy for visitors to navigate the Festival and experience all the celebration has to offer. Visitors can explore the following neighborhoods at the Festival: Energy; Pet Care and Wildlife; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle; Arts and Crafts; Wellness; the Earth Day Café; Nature; Home; Transportation; and, the Farmer’s Market. Each neighborhood will feature seating areas, providing a space for discussion, exchange and brief respite. Additionally, visitors are invited to reflect upon their experiences, and learn about spiritual connections with the Earth, at the Peace Garden. FOOD & DRINK! There will be over 20 food vendors present, offering diverse cuisine ranging from vegetarian jambalaya and mushroom ravioli to organic lamb and chicken gyros. No trans-fat, highly processed or high fructose corn syrup menu items are allowed! Also on site will be vendors of locally brewed beer, locally distilled rum and wine crafted locally with local grapes! GETTING THERE!
St. Louis Earth Day encourages Festival attendees to use alternative methods of transportation to make the event more environmentally friendly and
to reduce the heavy traffic into Forest Park. The Forest
Park/DeBaliviere stop is the closest Metrolink station, only a
short walk from the MUNY Grounds. The St. Louis Regional Bicycle Federation will be
offering free valet bike parking on site. Please note that well-behaved, leashed dogs are most welcomed. Watering stations
available in the Pet Care Neighborhood and at the water fountains marked
on the map. |
